LoveManiac PC Controls and Movement Fixes

If the player character does not move, start with simple input checks before reinstalling the game. Controls can change between builds, so in-game prompts remain the source of truth.

First checks

  1. Click inside the game window once. A newly opened window may not have keyboard focus.
  2. Try the arrow keys first, then check the in-game menu or prompts for the current build.
  3. Disconnect controllers or virtual input tools temporarily and restart the game.
  4. Close keyboard remappers, overlays, or macro tools that may intercept input.

If the game still does not respond

Restart the game after closing it fully. If the problem began after an update, re-download the current official build rather than installing a file from another site. Report the issue through the official itch.io comments or devlog with your operating system and the build name.

Keyboard and window focus checks

If only some keys work, click the game window and test the controls again. Full-screen mode, a second monitor, or an overlay can make it look as though the game has stopped accepting input. Test with a simple text editor to confirm that the keyboard itself is responding, then close the editor before returning to the game.

On a laptop, check whether a function-key layer or accessibility feature is changing key behavior. On macOS and Linux, also check whether the window manager has moved the game behind another window. These checks are useful because reinstalling the game will not fix lost focus or an input tool intercepting the keyboard.

When to report a bug

Report a problem when it happens in a clean launch and can be reproduced. Include the build number, operating system, input device, and the exact step where movement stops. A short description is more useful than a general message such as “controls broken.” Do not upload a private save file or personal information to a public comment.

You can also compare your build with the LoveManiac version history. If the problem is related to an installation rather than movement, start with the desktop download checklist or the PC troubleshooting page.

Input problems that look like game bugs

A controller left connected in the background can change which device receives input. The same can happen with streaming software, accessibility utilities, remote desktop tools, or a second application that is still focused. Close those tools one at a time and test after each change so you know which setting fixed the problem.

Avoid changing several configuration files at once. Make a backup before editing anything and use the official build as the baseline. If keyboard input works in menus but not during a scene, record that detail because it narrows the issue to a particular game state rather than the whole operating system.
